The Best Original Screenplay award at the Academy Awards 2021 was won by Emerald Fennell for “Promising Young Woman”.

The other nominees in the category were Will Berson & Shaka King for Judas And The Black Messiah, Lee Isaac Chung for Minari, Darius Marder & Abraham Marder for Sound of Metal, Aaron Sorkin for The Trial of the Chicago 7.

The award in this category in 2020 was shared by Bong Joon-ho and Han Jin-won for ‘Parasite’. The film also won awards in categories for Best Picture, Best Director, and  Best International Feature Film.

This year, the Academy Awards, unlike the other award ceremonies in the year where there were no traditional audience and acceptance speeches were made via virtual mode, producers pressed the nominees and relevant audience to attend the event in-person. All the safety measures and precautions against coronavirus were taken. Every nominee spent 45 minutes with the producers prior to attending the event.
