Oscars 2021: Time, venue, host, format, all you need to know

  • The Oscars were earlier scheduled for February 28
  • Singer Nick Jonas and actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas announced the nominations last month
  • For the third time in a row, the Academy Awards will not have a host

The Academy Awards, or Oscars, will be held on Sunday (i.e. April 25). The ceremony was earlier scheduled for February 28 but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 situation. Also, the December 31 deadline was extended till February 28. This means that the films that released till February 28 are eligible for this year’s Oscars.

The ceremony will begin at 8 pm (ET) or 5.30 am (IST).

Here is everything to know about the biggest night in the field of films:

Where will be the Oscars held?

Along with the traditional venue of Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, this year’s Academy Awards will be also be held at the Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.

Will the show be virtual or in-person?

The Oscars 2021 will be an in-person event without the option of Zoom. However, the ceremony will be intimate and will be limited to nominees, presenters and their guests.

Precautions will be taken regarding the novel coronavirus. All the guests will be tested for COVID-19 and a safety team will be present at the venue during the ceremony.

Who is the host?

Just like the previous two years, there will no traditional host at this year’s Oscars. However, it does have a fabulous line of performers that include Brad Pitt, Halle Berry, Bong Joon Ho, Regina King,  Reese Witherspoon, and Zendaya.

Who is the producer?

Quite ironically, the director of Contagion, is responsible for this year’s Oscars. The other producers are Canadian actor-director Jesse Collins and American producer Stacy Sher.

What about the nominations?

The nomination list for Oscars 2021 was announced last month by singer Nick Jonas and actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
