Actor Phylicia Rashad walked up on stage to collect her Tony Award on Sunday and won thousands of hearts with her acceptance speech. The awards were hosted in Manhattan after a two-year suspension due to COVID-19.

“You do not come to this place alone. You have heard it several times tonight, and it is true. It takes the work of many people”, Rashad said with the Tony Award in her hand.

“It is wonderful to be a part of this community. It is wonderful to present humanity in its fullness and to feel it received. Thank you all so very much”, the 73-year-old actor said at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Fans of Phylicia Rashad flooded social media with appreciation posts. While some said that were left with tears in their eyes after hearing her speech, others loved her “regal-looking” outfit.

Rashad won the Tony Award for her performance in the play ‘Skeleton Crew’, which has been written by Dominique Morisseau. She was nominated in the category of Best Featured Actress in a Play.

Phylicia Rashad’s Tony Award win on Sunday was not her first. She previously won the award for her performance in the 2004 revival of ‘A Raisin in the Sun’.

Her additional Broadway credits include Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, August: Osage County, Cymbeline, Gem of the Ocean, Jelly’s Last Jam, Into the Woods, Dreamgirls, and The Wiz and Ain’t Supposed to Die a Natural Death.
