Plane crash near Republic airport in Long Island: 1 dead, 2 others seriously injured
A small plane crashed in Lindenhurst this afternoon in the area of 5th street and North Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst. Footage of the incident taken from a Ring doorbell appears to show the plane flying low, hitting trees, and bursting into flames.
According to Abc7, one person died and two others were injured after the crash around 3 pm while on way to Republic Airport in Farmingdale.
The FAA said there were three people on board the privately-owned single-engine Piper PA 28. No one on the ground was harmed.
Neighbour Chris Baldaddano, who took video of his block, says the crash happened way too close to his home across the street. He also felt the impact inside the home.
“I ran to front of house, saw fireball and plume of smoke. Ran outside, made sure everybody down the block were out of houses,” Baldassano said.
