As the Tokyo Olympics began on Friday, actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas took to Instagram to cheer for the Indian athletes competing at the competition. The Instagram post shows her in a mood happy, rooting for Mary Kom and Manpreet Singh, who led the Indian contingent of 20 athletes as the flag bearers at the opening ceremony being held at Japan National Stadium.

The 39-year-old penned a long note and extended her best wishes to participants from all over the world, saying, “I’m sitting in front of my TV watching the opening of the Olympic Games happening right now in Tokyo and the mood is somber, yet the moment feels nostalgic. We all know the games are unlike anything we’ve experienced before, with the best of the best athletes in the world competing for the pride of their countries. The arenas may be without an audience, but our cheers won’t stop, no matter where we are. Good luck to everyone participating. Know that you are giving an embattled world something to collectively cheer for.”

She cheered for the Indian team and said, “All the very best to the Refugee Olympic Team… I’m cheering for you!! Your presence sends such a powerful message of hope to the world. Best of luck #TeamIndia!”

The actor, who once played Mary Kom in the boxer’s biopic gave an extra loud cheer for her, “I’m cheering for each and everyone of you! P.S. @mcmary.kom, gave an extra loud cheer for you ! @pvsindhu1, @dkumari.archer – go Queens! Show em @mirzasaniar ???? #Cheer4India#GarvHai #Tokyo2020.”

Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the Tokyo Olympics are being watched and enjoyed by people from the comfort of their homes this year. However, their spirits remain strong as they root for athletes representing their countries at one of the most prestigious sports events in the world.
