Punjabi singer Sardool Sikander, who was ‘undergoing treatment for COVID-19’, dies at 60

Famous Punjabi singer Sardool Singh died on Wednesday, according to media reports. He was 60. While extending his condolences, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said the singer “was recently diagnosed with COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment for the same.”

“The world of Punjabi music is poorer today. My heartfelt condolences to his family and fans,” the CM tweeted.

Several politicians and celebrities have offered their condolences.

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal termed the singer’s death as “a huge loss to Punjabi movie & music Industry.”

“The Punjabi music industry has lost an icon in the demise of Sardool Sikander ji,” tweeted SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

“This feels like a personal loss,” tweeted Bollywood actor Zareen Khan.

“Paying condolences to the family members of Sardool Sikander Ji whose contribution towards Punjabi music industry is immense,” tweeted Punjab Congress.

Sikander made his first appearance on radio and TV in the 1980s with his album ‘Roadways Di Laari’ and has over 25 albums to his credit. He also acted in several Punjabi language films.

Sikander is survived by his wife Amar Noorie and two sons.
