Even though a tumultuous year has passed by, Ricky Gervais’s unsettling monologue from last year, when he was hosting the Golden Globes 2020, is still fresh in our minds. However, we have raced towards another edition of the yearly gala celebrating cinema and television.

For the 78th annual Golden Globes Award, there will yet be a reemergence of familiar faces when actor-comedian Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reform the much-anticipated hosting duo.

This will mark their fourth Globes hosting outing after the three-peat from 2013-2015.

However, owing to the ongoing pandemic, Fey and Poehler will have to go bicoastal — meaning Fey will host from the Rainbow Room in Manhattan, while Poehler will host from the ceremony’s usual spot at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Meanwhile, nominees are expected to appear from various locations around the world though it remains to be seen if they will be gathered at central locations in other major cities.

The Emmys too pulled off a similar hybrid event with host Jimmy Kimmel on stage at the Staples Center alongside presenters and guests while nominees appeared remotely from dozens of locations around the globe.

Both Fey and Poehler have clinched the Golden Globes award themselves.

Along with 6 nominations, Tina Fey won the Globes consecutively in 2008 and 2009 in the Best Television Actress (Musical/Comedy Series) category for ‘30 Rock’.

Meanwhile, Amy Poehler won in the same category in 2014 for ‘Parks and Recreation’. The ‘Inside Out’ star has also been nominated thrice for the awards.

The duo has been previously lauded for the quirky comic timing and a spontaneous touch of humour. With everything going on around the globe, viewers can expect a bit of hard-hitting social and political commentary wrapped under the comic overtones.

Delayed because of COVID-19, the Golden Globes, a joint effort between NBC, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and Dick Clark Productions, will air live on February 28 coast-to-coast from 5-8 pm PT/8-11 pm ET on NBC.

Meanwhile, Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji Henson are set to announce nominees Wednesday morning.
