Steven Speilbergs The Fablemans wins the 2022 Peoples Choice Award

The Fabelmans, directed by Steven Spielberg, won the People’s Choice Award at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday.
The 2022 TIFF has ended after two weeks. All eyes were on the People’s Choice Award on Sunday since it typically serves as a predictor of Oscar’s race. Every recipient of this honor during the past ten years has gone on to be nominated for Best Picture.

Critics’ favorites like Women Talking and The Banshees of Inisheer were also competing for the People’s Choice Award this year. Speilberg on receiving the award said, “Above all, I am glad I brought this film to Toronto, This is the most personal film I have made, and the warm reception from everyone in Toronto made my first visit to TIFF intimate and personal for me and my entire ‘Fabelmans’ family.”
He further added, “Thank you to Cameron Bailey and the incredible staff at TIFF; thank you to Universal Pictures, and a very special thank you to all the movie fans in Toronto who have made this past weekend one I’ll never forget.”
The People’s Choice Award has been voted online since 1978 by Tiff attendees and over the years this Award has been won by films like Nomadland, Green Book, 12 Years a Slave, The King’s Speech, Slumdog Millionaire, and American Beauty.

TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey said, “2022 brought an exceptional selection of films that excited festival audiences around the world. TIFF welcomed guests, press, industry, international stars, and directors back to the city and into cinemas. The sweeping range in cinematic storytelling from around the world is a testament to the uniqueness of the films that are being made.”
The Fabelmans is an upcoming film by Speilberg and is written by Tony Kushner. The film is a semi-autobiographical work based on the director’s life, his early childhood and his early years as a filmmaker. The Fabelmans is releasing in the United States on November 11 and then worldwide on November 23.
