Horror films come to our rescue when the nights seem too dull and lonely, and we are in a mood to get that spine chilled. Over the last decade, fans of scary movies have received a lot of treats, with Hereditary or The Conjuring franchise being released. Horror films are tricky to make, and a lot of them are not too well-received by critics. However, some of them remain to haunt us, give us nightmares days after we finish watching them.

Lights Out

This David F. Sandberg movie is sure to make you feel creepy and scared at the same time as we never get to see the face of the “creature” until the very end. The plot revolves around a young girl investigating her mother’s past connections after her stepfather gets killed by a supernatural entity.

Based on true events, James Wan’s The Conjuring is the first movie of the franchise. When a family moves into an old house, they experience intense paranormal activities. Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are paranormal experts, try to dig out the truth about this house and save the family from the spirits.

Based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel of the same name, It is nothing short of a nightmare. The movie also brings up social issues like bullying, child abuse while highlighting friendship and love. Seven ‘othered’ children have to face their worst fears when Pennywise, a clown who can morph itself, tries to attack them. 

Hereditary

Hereditary is considered one of the best horror movies of recent times. When their grandmother dies, Peter and Charlie Graham, along with their mother Annie begin to discover cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their heredity, which they have to come to terms with.

Don’t Breathe

This Fede Alvarez film promises to keep you stuck in one position with its gripping storyline. Everything goes haywire when a trio of teenagers decide to rob a rich, blind man’s house. They get to learn that this man was an Army veteran and someone not to be messed with only after entering the house.
