Nida Mahmood, famously known as the queen of kitsch, has been instrumental in giving sari a modern makeover by draping it over denim. Talking about fashion forecast for 2021, she says that this year will have the reflection of the year gone by.
“I
agree that 2020 has brought a very strong emphasis on relaxed dressing owing to
the Pandemic. 2021 will be influenced by the same,” she told Opoyi.
She
also picks trends that are going to dominate the fashion scene in 2021.
* Relaxed
easy silhouettes: Billowy, what we call free size silhouettes are in trend.
Also, easy empire line tunics and dresses are quite the favourite. Loose
culottes and pajamas team up wonderfully with such top silhouettes.
* Soft
comfortable fabrics: Mulmuls, fine cotton, habutai silk, some viscous cotton
blends are great for easy flowy silhouettes.
* Footprint
on the planet: The biggest burning issue is that of reducing the carbon
footprint on the planet. The fashion industry being the biggest contributor to
this issue, one has opened up to the urgency of using natural fabrics and using
local techniques
* Glam
meets leisure fashion: This is the coolest space to be in because our
lifestyles have gone through such a paradigm shift in terms of socializing. One
is focusing more on leisure clothing way more than ever before.
* Emphasis
on quality versus quantity: With the pandemic hitting the economy of the world
one has woken up to the realization that one doesn’t need too much to live a
comfortable life. One doesn’t need those many clothes that we have been
consuming in the name of fast fashion since forever. Slowing down is the answer
to leading a fuller life.
All
the above is hinged on the mandate that people must try to socialize as little
as possible and work from home as much as they can, said the designer.
“Top
silhouettes will be purchased more as one will mostly be e-meeting people over
zoom meetings as opposed to physical meetings,” sums up the designer.
