Bollywood star Akshay Kumar’s mother died at the Hiranandani Hospital, Mumbai on Wednesday, the actor shared in a social media post. 

“She was my core. And today I feel an unbearable pain at the very core of my existence. My maa Smt Aruna Bhatia peacefully left this world today morning and got reunited with my dad in the other world. I respect your prayers as I and my family go through this period. Om Shanti,” Akshay Kumar wrote.

Several interviews of Aruna Bhatia posted on social media show how much the mother and son loved each other. The duo shared a strong bond as Akshay in an Instagram post on mother’s day described her as ‘the only one whose one hand on my head can comfort me in troubled times’.

In January last year, the ‘Bell Bottom’ actor took Aruna Bhatia to her ‘favourite place in the whole world’ – a casino in Singapore. Posting a video on social media Akshay Kumar wrote, “Do more of what you love doing and that’s exactly what the birthday girl did. Spent the past week in Singapore taking mom to her favorite place in the whole world: the casino.”

This was not the only time Akshay Kumar set son-goals. In August 2019, taking out time from his shooting schedule, he took her for a stroll. “Juggled shoot to spend a few days with mom in London. No matter how busy you are with life and growing up, don’t forget they are also growing old. So, spend time with them while you still can,” he wrote. 

The 53-year-old actor, on Monday returned to Mumbai from the UK, where he was shooting, to be with his ailing mother. She was unwell for a few days and was admitted to the Hiranandani Hospital.
