Who is Anna Sueangam-iam? Miss Universe Thailand wins Impact Wayv award

Anna Sueangam-iam, Miss Universe Thailand, won the Impact Wayv award at the Miss Universe pageant 2022. Her parents worked as garbage collectors for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. She wore an evening gown prepared from soda draught can pull-tabs at the competition- a look that won hearts all across the world.

Who is Anna Sueangam-iam?

Anna Sueangam-iam went to Mahannaparam School in Bangkok. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kasetsart University.

In 2018, she won the Miss Mobile Thailand title. She then competed in Miss Thinn Thai Ngarm 2020 where she was the second runner-up. Anna Sueangam-iam participated in Miss Universe Thailand 2022 and won the title. 

During the question and answer round at the finale of the competition in July 2022, she was asked what she would do to boost the morale of people who are suffering across the world.

“You’re not the only ones facing despair. I used to be in despair too. We learn from our troubles to adapt and survive. I would call on all of you to have confidence in yourselves and rise to fight again. If I can, so can you,” she answered.

For the Miss Universe 2022 preliminary competition round, she wore a dress made from soda draught can pull-tabs. The gown went viral on social media. 

The official Instagram page of Miss Universe Thailand (MUT) shared pictures of her wearing the gown and captioned it, “Persistence, tenaciousness, and optimism within her have led her to a great success in life. It is the result of being brought up by a father who is a garbage collector, street-sweeper mother, and a virtuous nun who was Anna’s great-grandmother.” 

“Although she was called by some as “The garbage beauty queen,” that never stops her from shining bright as a precious gem.”
