Makati’s Michelle Marquez Dee has been crowned as the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 in a ceremony on Saturday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Bay City, Pasay, Metro Manila. The 2022 winner of the pageant, Celeste Cortesi, crowned Dee as this year’s winner making her eligible to represent the Philippines in the upcoming Miss Universe 2023 competition.

The 28-year-old Dee is a well-known Filipino actress and model who is renowned for both her alluring appearance and her stellar on-screen work. Michelle was born on April 24, 1995, in the Philippines. The daughter of Derek Dee, a businessman, and Melanie Marquez, a former Miss International, Dee entered beauty pageants to begin her career in the entertainment sector before moving on to acting.

After making her acting debut in the 2019 film “Dead Kids,” Michelle has subsequently made appearances in a number of well-known films and television programmes, including “All About Eve,” “On the Job 2,” and “The Lost Recipe.” She represented the Philippines in numerous international beauty pageants, including Miss World and Miss Supranational in 2019, and she was crowned Miss World Philippines in 2019.

The final five candidates for the winner’s trophy included Krishnah Marie Gravidez, Angelique Manto, Pauline Amelinckx, Christine Opiaza apart from Dee after the competition began with 38 ladies vying for the crown.

The day earlier saw some controversy as the pageant body scrapped the Top 10 list it had previously announced citing technical difficulties. The body mentioned that the Top 18 announced earlier will model their evening gowns and compete for the Top 5 spot.

The body also announced winners of special awards during the ceremony. Michelle Dee was also named the ‘Best in Evening Gown’. The ‘Best in Swimsuit award’ went to Krishnah Marie Gravidez. Meanwhile, the awards for ‘Face of Social Media’ and ‘Miss Congeniality’ went to Jannarie Zarzoso and Shayne Glenmae Maquiran, respectively.
