Monica Aldama, an American cheering coach, was born on February 9, 1972. The co-ed cheerleading squad of Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas, is coached by her.

Corsicana High School alumna Aldama enrolled at Tyler Junior College and joined the cheerleading squad there. The Navarro College Bulldogs have developed a reputation for superior cheerleading at the national level under Aldama’s direction.

In addition to six “Grand National” titles since 2000, Aldama’s teams have won 16 NCA National Championships in the Advanced Large Coed division and 1 National Championship in the Game Day Open division.

The team with the highest overall score in that year’s competition is awarded Grand National status. The NCA College Nationals record for best score was also set by Aldama’s team.

Her cheerleaders refer to her as the “Queen,” and her cheerleading program has been dubbed a “dynasty.” Due to her popularity, Aldama has made appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Oprah’s live tour.

Aldama appeared in the Netflix docuseries Cheer in 2020. The show focused on the 2019 Navarro College coed cheerleading squad and helped to popularize the sport. Greg Whiteley, a documentary filmmaker best known for his football-related film Last Chance U before this series, directed the film Cheer. Both shows sympathetically depict college players dealing with setbacks in their personal life and disabilities.

The story of cheer is centered on Aldama’s mentoring, which is typically nurturing even as the squad’s members suffer increasing injuries that force her to make practical decisions in order to help the team win the national title in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Aldama is being sued for allegedly covering up a sexual assault incident. The accusations state that after the student disclosed that she had been abused, she told her to keep quiet.
