Saving Private Ryan actor Tom Sizemore died at the age of 61 after he was removed from life support, his manager said Friday. Sizemore was hospitalized after he was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm.

“It is with great sadness and sorrow I have to announce that actor Thomas Edward Sizemore (‘Tom Sizemore’) aged 61 passed away peacefully in his sleep today at St Joseph’s Hospital Burbank,” a statement said.

“His brother Paul and twin boys Jayden and Jagger (17) were at his side.”

The actor’s brother Paul said he was “deeply saddened.”

“He was larger than life. He has influenced my life more than anyone I know. He was talented, loving, giving and could keep you entertained endlessly with his wit and storytelling ability. I am devastated he is gone and will miss him always.”

Who was Tom Sizemore?

Tom Sizemore, whose birth name was Thomas Edward Sizemore, was born in 1961 in Detroit. Despite being in the film industry in the 1980s, he gained prominence after his role in Steven Spielberg’s 1998 World War II epic Saving Private Ryan. The film received Best Picture nomination at the Oscars.

In the 1990s, he appeared in movies including the True Romance, written by Quentin Tarantino, and cult hit Natural Born Killers.

Outside of his career, Sizemore was embroiled in several controversies including reports of his drug addiction. He reportedly used crystal methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine.

In 2003, he was convicted of attacking his then-girlfriend and spent eight months in jail.

He was jailed several times due to drug possession.

In 2017, he pleaded no contest to more domestic violence charges.
