Arvind Kejriwal announced on early Tuesday that he had tested positive for COVID-19. The Delhi Chief Minister said that he was experiencing “mild symptoms” and was isolating himself at home.

However, the 53-year-old has previously had multiple health issues during his term. In June 2018, he visited Banglore to join a 10-day neuropathy course, according to media reports.

The Delhi Chief Minister’s office announced then that health issues were triggered after Kejriwal joined a nine-day long protest Lt Governor’s office. During the sit, his blood sugar levels had spiked, lowering the effect of insulin injections on him, Economic Times reported.

Later in June 2020– about four months after coronavirus had picked up pace– Arvind Kejriwal had a COVID scare. Reports from Business Today suggest the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) politician developed a sore throat and had a fever. His condition triggered concerns and prompted the Chief Minster’s office to cancel his meetings and conduct a COVID-19 test.

According to reports from India Today citing Dr Vipin Mittal, Kejriwal’s long-time physician and friend, the Delhi Chief Minister does not have “full-blown” diabetes but his blood sugar levels are uncontrolled. The report further noted that he also has bronchial issues since his childhood.

Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita had also been admitted to New Delhi’s Max Super Speciality Hospital in Saket in May last year, days after testing positive for COVID-19. She was earlier being treated at home.

The Delhi Chief Minister’s tweet on Tuesday morning read, “I have tested positive for Covid. Mild symptoms. Have isolated myself at home. Those who came in touch wid (with) me in last few days, kindly isolate urself (yourself) and get urself tested.”

Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said that though the number of daily COVID-19 cases and active cases are increasing in the city, there is no need to panic as those are very mild and do not need hospitalisation.
