Health ministry suggests ‘chyawanprash’, ‘pranayam’ for post-COVID recovery

The Ministry of Health on Sunday issued a ‘post COVID-19 management protocol’, an integrated set of guidelines for patients who have recovered from COVID-19. The guidelines suggest consumption of Chyawanprash and the practice of ‘pranayam’ for effective results.

“After acute COVID-19 illness, recovered patients may continue to report wide variety of signs and symptoms,” the ministry said in a statement.

“A holistic approach is required for follow up care and well-being of all post-COVID recovering patients,” it added.

The health ministry encouraged the consumption of chyawanprash at the end of its guidelines.

“It is also suggested by the Ministry of AYUSH that the use of chyawanprash in the morning (1 teaspoonful) with luke warm water/milk is highly recommended (under the direction of Registered Ayurveda physician) as in the clinical practice chyawanprash is believed to be effective in post-recovery period,” the suggestion read.

It also stressed on practising breathing exercises like ‘pranayam’, and daily walks to get effective results post-recovery. “Daily practice of Yogasana, Pranayama and Meditation, as much as health permits or as prescribed.”

Among other things, the ministry has suggested drinking adequate amount of warm water, enough sleep and rest, self-health monitoring at home, nutritious diet, etc.
