India records 25,404 new COVID-19 cases, 339 deaths in last 24 hours

India recorded 25,404 new COVID-19 cases, 339 deaths in last 24 hours, data from the Union Ministry of Health confirmed on Tuesday. India’s total infection tally now stands at 3,32,89,579 with the death toll pushed to 4,43,213. 

The country’s recent downward trend in daily cases continued on Tuesday, as India recorded 1,850 fewer cases than on Monday.

Active cases have declined by 12,062 to 3,62,207 and comprise 1.09% of the total caseload. 

37,127 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,24,84,159. The national recovery rate stands at 97.58%. 

Data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed a total of 14,30,891 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s cumulative testing tally to 54,44,44,967.

The goverment has also administered 78,66,950 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in the last 24 hours, taking India’s cumulative vaccination tally to 75,22,38,324. 

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, 50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and the one-crore mark on December 19.

The country crossed the grim milestone of two crore cases on May 4 and three crore on June 23.

The Health Ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to co-morbidities.

“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
