India records 62,258 COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, highest single day spike of 2021

India recorded 62,258 new coronavirus cases in a day, the highest single day rise so far this year. A total 291 deaths were reported taking the nationwide tally to 161,240. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country are 11,908,910, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.
The active caseload breached the 4 lakh-mark again after around three-and-half months.
The country has witnessed a spike in cases and the active cases have increased to 452,647.

The 59,118 new infections reported in a span of 24 hours were the highest since October 18, 2020.
As many as 61,871 new infections were recorded in a span of 24 hours on October 18.
The number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 11,295,023 while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.36%, the data stated.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7 and it went past the one-crore mark on December 19.
According to the data, Maharashtra has been reported over 30,000 cases since last week. The state government has imposed a night curfew in the state to stop the spread of the deadly virus.
