India records highest single-day spike of 75,760 COVID-19 cases, 1,023 new deaths

India recorded 75,760 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in country to 33,10,235, according to data released by the Union Health Ministry. This is the highest single-day spike in cases since the pandemic has started. 

A total of 1,023 new deaths were recorded, taking the death toll to 60,472.

The total number of active cases currently stand at 725,991 while 25,23,772 patients have recovered. 

The Indian Council of Medical Research said that 3,85,76,510 samples have been tested up to August 26, and of these 9,24,998 samples were tested on Thursday. 

India remains the third worst-hit country in the world after the US and Brazil.
