India reported 30,256 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. A total of 295 people succumbed to the disease. The total number of COVID-19 cases in India stands at 33, 478, 419. The number of active cases is 3,18,181. The total number recoveries is 3, 27, 15, 105. More than 4 lakh people have died of COVID-19 in India so far.

Meanwhile, 37,78,296 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. Total number of vaccinations have surpassed the 80-crore mark.

In the week that ended on Sunday, India recorded a 15% drop in new COVID-19 cases. This was the lowest weekly count in over six months. COVID-19 cases in Kerala, the virus hotspot for so many weeks, declined by 21%. Between September 13 and 19, India reported 2.14 lakh cases, down from 2.51 lakh cases reported the earlier week.
Last week’s COVID-19 caseload was the lowest in 27 weeks since March 8 to 14, for weeks ending in Sundays. Moreover, this was the second consecutive week of a substantial decline in COVID-19 numbers.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7 last year, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19 last year.
India recorded two crore cases on May 4 and three crore cases on June 23.

The Health Ministry stressed that more than 70% of the deaths occurred due to co-morbidities. “Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said.
