India reports 30,093 new COVID-19 cases, lowest in 4 months

  • A total of 17,92,336 COVID-19 tests were conducted on Monday
  • The active cases have declined to 406,130

India reported a single day rise of 30,093 new coronavirus cases and with 374 deaths on Monday, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday. The death toll has climbed to 414,482. The total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,11,74,322, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The active cases have declined to 406,130, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 97.32%. 45,254 people have recovered from COVID-19 in 24 hours.

A total of 17,92,336 COVID-19 tests were conducted on Monday taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 44,73,41,133.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past  60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on  October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29,  90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19. India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.

Meanwhile, Europe became the first region worldwide to cross 50 million coronavirus cases, reports Reuters. According to Reuters tally, the region is reporting a million new infections about every eight days. Nearly 1.3 million people have died in Europe since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The Delta variant, which is more contagious than the original version of COVID-19 and was discovered in India first, has now been reported in about 100 countries and is now the dominant variant worldwide.
