Maharashtra reports record single-day spike with 36,902 new COVID-19 cases

  • A total of 112 deaths were reported from across the state, taking the death toll to 53,907
  • Maharashtra has a total of 2,82,451 active cases
  • The state's total case load now stands at 26,37,735

Maharashtra reported a total of 36,902 COVID-19 cases on Friday, yet again setting a new record for single-day spike in infections, ANI reported. The state’s total case load now stands at 26,37,735, while 112 virus-related deaths in the last 24 hours takes the state’s death toll to 53,907.

Maharasthra, the worst-affected state from the coronavirus in the country, has 2,82,451 active cases. A total of 23,00,056 patients have recovered from the infection in the state. 

India’s finiancial capital Mumbai also continued to witness a record surge in infections, reporting a record high of 5,515 cases in the same period. 

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray confirmed a night curfew in the entire state, to be imposed from March 28. 

All malls in the state have been orderd to stay closed from 8 pm to 7 am, with Thackeray also warning of stricter measures if people failed to follow protocols. 

The district of Nashik saw a record rise of 4,099 COVID-19 cases on Friday, with Maharashtra food and civil supplies minister and district guardian minister Chhagan Bhujbal saying a decision on a complete lockdown in the district will be taken after eight days.
