Maharashtra sees record 832 COVID-19 deaths in last 24 hours

Maharashtra on Sunday reported 66,191 new coronavirus cases, slightly less than Saturday, while the death figure jumped to 832, the state health department said.
The state is now left with 6,98,354 active cases.
A total of 61,450 patients were discharged in the day, taking the count of recoveries in Maharashtra to 35,30,060, the department said in a release.

A record 2,89 535 tests were conducted on Sunday, taking the number of samples tested so far in Maharashtra to 2,57,49,543, it said.
The recovery rate in Maharashtra is 82.19% and the case fatality rate is 1.51% the department said.
Earlier in the day, the Maharashtra government said it will vaccinate all its citizens against COVID-19 free of cost.
Maharashtra on Saturday recorded 67,160 new coronavirus cases and 676 deaths.
Maharashtra, the worst-hit state by the pandemic, is currently under a lockdown till May 1, imposed to curb the exponential rise in COVID-19 cases.
