Hollywood actor Bruce Willis is “stepping away” from acting amid his battle with Aphasia, his daughter Rumer Willis said on Wednesday.
“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him,” the 67-year-old actor’s daughter wrote in an Instagram post, alongside a photo of her father.

Rumer said that it “is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support.”
“We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together we plan to do just that,” she concluded.

What is Aphasia?
According to the National Institute of Deafness and other Communication Disorders, Aphasia is a disorder that is caused by injury to the parts of the brain that control language. These areas are on the left side of the brain for most people.

Aphasia normally strikes quickly as a result of a stroke or a concussion. It can also develop gradually as a result of a brain tumour or a progressive neurological condition.
Language expression and comprehension, as well as reading and writing, are all hampered by Aphasia, which is also frequently associated with speech disorders such as dysarthria or apraxia of speech, both of which are caused by brain injury.
