In the first ODI at the Oval, Jasprit Bumrah put on a devastating fast bowling performance en route to a six-wicket haul that set up India‘s 10-wicket win over England.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl in the cloudy circumstances. Bumrah proved the decision to be correct as India skittled out England for 110, their lowest total against the visitors. The pacer finished with impressive figures of six for 19 in 7.2 overs, his career-best.

Shikhar Dhawan (31* off 54), who was playing in his first competitive match since the IPL, and the skipper (76* off 58) led India to the record victory. Rohit wowed the crowd with some incredible shots while Dhawan naturally took a while to get into the swing of things. The skipper capitalized on the edge his bowlers had given him, and the entire game was over in just 44 overs after the visitors chased down the target in 25 overs. It was Dhawan who ultimately struck the match-winning four.

Earlier, after England was called to bat on a pitch that offered plenty of bounce and some swing, Bumrah shook them with early strikes, dismissing four of the top six. The India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant too had a busy day as he took three catches behind the wicket and dropped one tough chance off Bumrah in the 10th over.

David Willey (21 off 26) and Bryson Carse (15 off 26) shared the ninth wicket and scored 35 runs together, helping England surpass their lowest total of 86 against Australia in 2001. Bumrah re-entered the fray to finish up the tail and picked up his second ODI five-wicket haul.

Star batter Virat Kohli missed the game, due to a groin strain. The Lord’s will host the second ODI on 14th July, Thursday.
