2nd T20I: Records India captain Rohit Sharma can break vs Australia
- Rohit Sharma has played 20 T20I matches against Australia in his career
- He has scored three half-centuries against the Aussies, the second-most by any Indian cricketer
- Sharma will be playing in his home stadium of Nagpur in the second T20I match against Australia on September 23
India will face Australia in the second T20I match of the ongoing series on September 23, at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur, Maharashtra. While the Men in Blue were defeated in the first T20I, India registered a strong score of 208 runs for six wickets in the game. While the Indian batters were mostly successful, the bowlers could not replicate their best selves in the second innings.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored a meagre 11 runs from 9 balls before he was dismissed with a catch by Nathan Ellis. However, the Indian hitman will be playing in his home stadium in Nagpur in the second T20I and it can be expected that he will have added motivation to play better. If Sharma manages to play well, he is in contention to break two records in the game.

Rohit Sharma shares a healthy rivalry with former Indian captain and ace Virat Kohli. The duo share several batting records between them and are often chasing each other for more. A similar race will be on display against Australia on Friday when Rohit Sharma will be needed to score at least one six to equal Kohli’s record of 33 sixes, the most by any player in T20I.
He is also in contention to overtake former Pakistan ace Javed Miandad’s record of 16,213 international runs in the match. Sharma currently has 16,144 runs in international cricket and if he manages to score 70 runs, he will have surpassed the Pakistani great.

Rohit Sharma has scored the second-most half centuries (3) among Indian cricketers against Australia in his career and is following Virat Kohli (5) in the metric.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma continues to be the highest run-scorer in T20I cricket with 3,631 runs, followed by Virat Kohli closely, who has 3,586 runs. He is also in danger of conceding his top spot of most boundaries scored by any cricketer in T20I to Kohli, who needs only five more fours to equal Sharma’s record.
