The 39 constituencies

Morigaon districts and other parts of south Assam.

In the 2016 polls, the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 22 of these 39 constituencies. The BJP’s
alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) won two seats, while the Congress and
its ally, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), won six and five seats

Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation and the Anchalik Gana Marcha

constituencies, while a similar faceoff, between the BJP and the ULLP, will be

triangular fights in the rest.

Among the candidates are
five ministers and the assembly’s deputy speaker, apart from key opposition
leaders.
