Indian batters failed to chase a below-par target of 247 in the second ODI as England cruised to a 100-run win. The series is now tied at 1-1 and the third game at Manchester on Sunday will decide if Rohit Sharma and co end their tour on a high.

One major talking point ahead of the 3rd ODI is Virat Kohli’s form. The Indian batting star has struggled to score runs. His last century came in 2019. On the England tour, the 33-year-old made  11 and 20 in the two innings of the rescheduled Test. He then scored 1 and 11 runs in two T20Is.

The former India captain missed the first ODI, which the Men in Blue won by 10 wickets, due to a groin strain. He was included in the playing 11 for the second game, where he looked in good touch initially. He played two drives for boundaries before poking David Willey for a catch behind the stumps. Kohli scored 16 runs in 25 balls.

None of the India batters fired as they crumbled for 146 runs in 38.5 overs. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja made 29 runs each.

On the bowling front, India have been a hit all through the series. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been getting regular wickets as Yuzvendra Chahal has chipped in with a few.

“I want these guys to take the game on and see if they can find something different about their own game rather than looking at the team’s role. If they get the team out of that situation imagine the confidence they are going to get from that,” India captain Rohit Sharma had said after the second game.
