8 new Governors appointed, Union minister Thaawarchand Gehlot gets Karnataka

Thaawarchand Gehlot, union minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, was among the eight leaders appointed/rejigged as Governors of various states. The rejig that came amid talk of a union cabinet reshuffle, saw Gehlot being sent to Karnataka, Hari Babu Kambhampati to Mizoram and Bandaru Dattatraya to Haryana Governor among others.

* PS Sreedharan Pillai is transferred from Mizoram appointed as Governor of Goa
* Satyadev Narayan Arya is transferred from Haryana and appointed Governor of Tripura
* Ramesh Bais is transferred from Tripura and appointed Governor of Jharkhand
The gubernatorial rejig is being seen as a precursor to a Cabinet reshuffle that is expected any day now. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was expected to meet BJP chief JP Nadda today to discuss organisational changes that may need to be carried out in case any leader from the party joins the Cabinet. But, the meeting was cancelled this morning.
Amid the Cabinet reshuffle buzz, BJP leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia and former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananada Sonowal have departed for Delhi. The two are likely to be instated as Cabinet ministers soon.
Gehlot, 73, is currently the Leader of the House in the upper house of Parliament. He is also a member of the Parliamentary Board and the Central Election Committee of the BJP.
