Act of crude partisanship and vengeance’: CPI(M) on Delhi riots charge sheet
- CPI(M) called the chargesheet an act of crude partisanship and vengeance
- Yechury accused govt of misusing state machinery to target Opposition
- Delhi Police denied the reports that claimed that Yechury was named as co-conspirator
Recording a strongly-worded dissent, CPI(M) on Sunday issued a statement calling the Delhi Riot’s charge sheet an ‘act of vengeance’. In a supplementary charge sheet filed on Saturday, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury was accused of participating in anti-CAA demonstrations to “provoke and mobilise” crowds, PTI reported.
“We condemn this obnoxious action by the Delhi Police to further the narrative of its political masters and urges the government to desist from such acts of criminalising peaceful political protests,” the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Politburo said in the statement.

CPI(M) also said that it was shocked by the brazenness with which the Delhi Police, acting under Home Minister Amit Shah, has tried to implicate prominent political leaders, academics and activists. “No condemnation is strong enough for this act of crude partisanship and vengeance,” the statement added.
CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP KK Ragesh gave suspension of business notice under rule 267 in Rajya Sabha, demanding that the House expresses serious concerns on NDA government naming Yechury as a co-conspirator, ANI reported.

The Delhi Police, however, denied the media reports that claimed that Yechury and others were named as co-conspirators in the charge sheet. Meanwhile, Yechury accused the Narendra Modi government of misusing state machinery to target the Opposition.
“They are scared of legitimate peaceful protests by mainstream political parties and are misusing state power to target the Opposition,” Yechury said.
