Not just in India, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is planning to set up the BJP government in neighbouring countries, such as Nepal and Sri Lanka, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has claimed, running into controversy on Sunday. He cited a conversation in 2018 with Shah, where he had talked about such plans of “overseas” expansion of BJP, NDTV reported.

Speaking at an event of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state capital, Agartala, Deb said Shah is planning to expand the party not only across India but beyond the country’s borders.

Deb said that he had a conversation with Shah in 2018, when the Tripura CM was preparing for the state assembly elections when the then BJP chief had spoken about “overseas” expansion of BJP after the party wins all the states in India, reports NDTV. The BJP had won the assembly elections in Tripura at that time, defeating the Left front government.

Talking about the conversation, Deb said, “We were talking in the state guesthouse when Ajay Jamwal (northeast zonal secretary of BJP) said that BJP formed its government in several states. In reply, Amit Shah said that now Sri Lanka and Nepal are left. ‘We have to expand the party in Sri Lanka, Nepal and win there to form a government’,” quoted NDTV.

Deb praised Shah’s leadership and said the Home Minister made BJP the “world’s largest party.”
