143 runs against Pakistan, World Cup 2003

Symonds’ breakthrough came at the 2003 World Cup, after making his international debut in 1998. On the challenging surface of Johannesburg, the Australian top order struggled against a super confident Pakistani bowling attack. Before Symonds took over, Pakistan had reduced Australia to 86/4. As Australia settled for 310/8, he hit an unbroken 143 (125). Later, the Australian bowlers bowled Pakistan out for 228.

156 runs against New Zealand, 2005

With his blazing 156-run knock against the Kiwis in Wellington, Symonds brought his A-game in 2005 against New Zealand. During the innings, he hit 12 fours and eight sixes in an attempt to sabotage New Zealand’s bowling attack. After 50 overs, Australia totalled 322/5, with Michael Clarke scoring an unbeaten 82. In the end, Australia snatched a two-run victory in the final over.

156 runs against England, Ashes 2006

Symonds collaborated with left-handed opening batsman Matthew Hayden on several successful partnerships throughout his career. In the 2006 Boxing Day Test, the tandem triumphed once more. When Symonds joined him in the middle, Australia was on 84/5 in the first innings. They totalled 279 runs, with Symonds scoring 156 of them. The hosts eventually claimed victory by an innings and 99 runs.

107 runs against India, 2007

In the sixth One-Day International at Nagpur, Symonds hammered the Indian spinners all over the field and played them with great precision. Australia lost four wickets for 129 runs while batting first, giving the hosts the upper hand. After 50 overs, Symonds’ 107 off 88 balls drove them to 317/8. Later, India was limited to 299/7.

162 runs against India, 2008

In the SCG Test against India, Symonds scored his highest international score. After the top order struggled at the outset, he once again emerged as the rescuer. In the first innings, his 226-ball 162* helped Australia to 463 runs. The specific Test match was notable for its constant umpiring blunders as well as the Harbhajan-Symonds battle. However, Australia eventually triumphed by 122 runs.
