At least 4 killed after bus plummets into gorge in Visakhapatnam, many injured

At least four were killed and many injured after a private bus fell into a valley near Ananthagiri, Visakhapatnam, news agency ANI reported. The bus that fell into a gorge at Anantagiri near Araku in Visakhapatnam district, on Friday evening, was carrying 18 passengers, Chief Minister K Chandrasekar Rao’s office said.
“All the deceased persons were from Hyderabad. The injured shifted to the hospital. NDRF team rushed to the spot,” ANI quoted Visakhapatnam SP Krishna Rao as saying.
According to various media reports, the private bus plummeted into a 200-foot valley.

After the accident, police and medical personnel arrived at the scene to take stock of the situation and assess what caused the accident. According to initial reports, the accident may have been caused by a brake failure.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday condoled the death of people in a road accident in Andhra Pradesh.

In his condolences message, Modi said, “Distressed to hear about the accident in Visakhapatnam, AP. Condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. Prayers with the injured. May they recover soon.”
Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan said he was deeply shocked and anguished at the incident.
