BJP MLA Subash Panigrahi ‘attempts suicide’ in Odisha Assembly over paddy procurement irregularities

- Last month, Panigrahi had threatened self-immolation over the same issue
BJP MLA Subash Panigrahi attempted suicide in the Odisha State Assembly by consuming sanitiser to protest the non-procurement of paddy. The incident took place during the post lunch session on Friday when State Supplies Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain was briefing the Assembly about paddy procurement.
As soon as Subash Panigrahi opened the sanitiser bottle and attempted to consume it, other ministers rushed to him and snatched away the bottle.
“Paddy procurement not being done in Debgad. More than 2 lakh quintal paddy lying unsold. Attempted suicide by consuming sanitiser to draw govt’s attention to the issue,” Subash Panigrahi said after the session, ANI reported.
Last month, Panigrahi had threatened self-immolation over the same issue.
He staged a protest outside the Assembly and said, “I will set myself on fire if the procurement process was not streamlined and the produce of farmers procured at the earliest.”
