Chad Wolf steps down as the acting head of DHS amid the possibility of further violence
- Chad Wolf served as the acting head of Department of Homeland Security for 14 months
- His authority as the head of DHS was under question in US courts
- Pete Gaynor, Administrator for FEMA, will be taking over his position
According to an official at the US Department of Homeland Security, Chad Wolf, the interim secretary of the DHS, resigned from his position amid the potential for further violence during the inauguration of US President-elect Joe Biden, reported AFP.
Pete Gaynor, who currently serves as the Administrator for FEMA will be taking over the office of Wolf as the DHS prepares for any kind of violence on or before inauguration day.
Wolf said in a letter, “I am saddened to take this step, as it was my intention to serve the Department until the end of this Administration. Unfortunately, this action is warranted by recent events, including the ongoing and meritless court rulings regarding the validity of my authority as Acting Secretary. These events and concerns increasingly serve to divert attention and resources away from the important work of the Department in this critical time of a transition of power”, reported CNN.
