Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday visited Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh to meet the family of Navreet Singh, a farmer who lost his life during the tractor rally in New Delhi on Republic Day, reported PTI. Singh died after his tractor overturned during the tractor rally on January 26.

“Family members of the deceased want judicial inquiry. We are with the farmers and their families. Our government is yet to identify this movement as a real struggle. There is no politics behind it. This is the pain of our farmers,” Gandhi told media after meeting the family members of the 27-year-old deceased farmer, reported ANI.

“The three farm laws that should be rolled back are a crime against the farmers, but the bigger crime is calling martyrs terrorists and viewing farmers’ protests as a political conspiracy against them,” the Congress leader added.

Gandhi, along with senior Congress leaders including party’s Uttar Pradesh unit chief Ajay Kumar Lallu, attended the ‘antim ardas’ (final prayers for the departed).

Congress and other Opposition parties, including Shiromani Akali Dal and Shiv Sena, is continuously supporting the farmers’ agitation at the outskirts of the national capital.

Thousands of farmers are camping at Delhi borders since November last year demanding the repeal of three new agriculture laws enacted by Centre in September and guarantee minimum support price for crops.
