Delhi facing COVID vaccine shortage, stock will last only few days: CM Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that the national capital is witnessing a shortage of COVID-19 vaccines. He added that his government aims to vaccinate all citizens within the next three months. “Delhi is facing a shortage of vaccine. Vaccine supply has become a big challenge for the entire country,” the chief minister said.

“Right now, we’re administering 1.25 lakh doses every day. We’ll soon begin vaccinating over 3 lakh people every day. We aim to vaccinate all residents of Delhi within the next 3 months,” Kejriwal said.

He suggested that the Centre should share the COVID-19 vaccine formula of the two manufacturers with other companies in the country to scale up production.

The Centre should ensure that all the vaccine manufacturing plants in the country start producing COVID doses, the chief minister said.

The two COVID vaccine manufacturers can be provided royalty for use of their formula by other companies, he added.

Kejriwal said scaling up vaccine production is needed to vaccinate everyone before the onset of the next wave of COVID-19.

On Monday, Kejriwal said that Delhi should prepare for the third wave of COVID-19 and exuded confidence that given the scale at which the city is creating infrastructure, it will be able to handle even 30,000 COVID cases a day.
