Fact check: Did G7 leaders attend climate change dialogue on private jets?

The Group of Seven, or G7 is a forum where the world’s most significant economies come together for close-knit discussions. The seven members in the G7 are USA, Canada, Japan, the UK, Germany, France, and Italy.

Recently, the G7
summit saw leaders converging at Cornwall in England in
their first face-to-face meeting since the pandemic started.

The summit was held from June 11 to June 13, where detailed discussions on a range of global issues, including climate change, were held.

Pictures of several parked aircraft have since surfaced on the internet, and social media users are linking them to
the summit. Users are pointing out the irony in G7 leaders using private jets to attend discussions on climate change.

However, the pictures are old and not related to the G7 summit, according to an India Today report. one of the pictures is of private jets parked at the Las Vegas airport ahead of a
professional boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in 2015.

It was used in a Daily Mail report from May 3, 2015, and was credited to American sports journalist Levan Reid, who had actualy posted the image on his Twitter handle six years ago.

However, according to news reports, some G7 leaders
including UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson did take private jets to reach the
summit venue.
