The ongoing farmers’ agitation entered Day 71 on Thursday. The central government on Wednesday hit out at international celebrities, including American pop star Rihanna and teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg, who took to Twitter to extend their support to the protest. Several Bollywood celebrities, cricketers and ministers also joined in the government’s pushback against the tide of global support for the farmers. Meanwhile, stringent security measures continued at the Ghazipur border in light of the scheduled ‘chakka jam’ by farmers on February 6 with internet services remaining disrupted for a fifth day. The Supreme Court rejected petitions seeking probe into the tractor rally violence in Delhi on Republic Day. Delhi Traffic Police on Thursday informed commuters that Ghazipur border has been closed and traffic has been diverted from Noida link road on NH 24, NH 9.
