Films based on the life of Indian nationalist Subhash Chandra Bose

Indian nationalist Subhash Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary is celebrated on January 23. A freedom fighter, Bose is often remembered for the slogan ‘Tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe azadi dunga’. 

What better way than to celebrate this day than to watch a few films based on his life? Check a few of them out below:

1. ‘Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero’ (2004)

Based on the disagreement between Mahatma Gandhi and Bose, the war film describes Bose’s escapade act to Germany. It was directed by filmmaker Shyam Benegal, and stars Sachin Khedekar as Netaji. Jisshu Sengupta, Kulbhusan Kharbanda, Divya Dutta played supporting roles as Sisir Bose, Uttamchand Malhotra and Ila Bose respectively. 

2. ‘Gumnamni’ (2019)

The Bengali film describes three theories surrounding what might have happened to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

3. ‘Forgotten Army’ (2020)

Directed by Kabir Khan, the six-episode documentary describes the lesser-known facts and struggles by Bose’s Indian National Army soldiers.

4. ‘Bose: Dead/Alive (2017)’

The nine-part television series revolves around the theories about Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s mysterious death circumstances. Directed by Ekta Kapoor, the series stars Bollywwod actor Rajkumar Rao in the lead role.

5. ‘Subhas Chandra (1966)’

Directed by Piyush Bose, this Bengali film narrates the life of young Subhash Bose, exploring the chronology of his childhood, college days, early political campaigns, and police arrest. The film also delves into Bose’s patriotism.
