Seven firemen from the Haryana’s Sirsa district stood in solidarity with the farmers at the Singhu border by distributing free ‘Gol Gappas’ at the protest site. The firemen ran out of Gol Gappas within 30 minutes, reports PTI.

Surender Kamboj, one of the firemen from Haryana, recalled seeing a child walking around a gol gappas stall. He then asked the child what he wanted to which he replied ‘Gol Gappa’. This is what motivated Kamboj and his friends to start the ‘Gol Gappa langar’ at the Singhu border.

The group of friends immediately decided to buy the entire stock from the vendor in order to start the langar.

Ravindra Kumar, another fireman from the group, said that the vendor had not made any sales all day since people had been eating at the langars organised at the border. He said, “this was a win-win situation for everyone as we got an opportunity to do sewa and the vendor sold his entire stock.”

Kumar said they wanted to show their support to the protesting farmers. The team of 21 firefighters had decided to come to the protest site in three batches with a new batch coming in after three days. He added that they had permission from their seniors at the fire station.

Kamboj said that they could relate to what the farmers were going through as they all had agricultural land in their villages.

Mohammad Salim, the Gol Gappa vendor, said he earned more that day than he had earned in the last three days. He added, “Kamboj paid me Rs 1,000, which is more than what I expected.”
