Great chance for India to win in England, says Rohit Sharma

A 151-run win at Lord’s has put India ahead in the five-match Test series against England. Leading 1-0, Virat Kohli and company will go to Leeds hoping to extend their advantage and secure India’s first Test series win on British soil since 2007. In an interview with wicket-keeper turned commentator Dinesh Karthik, opener Rohit Sharma said that he believes this could be India’s best shot at winning a Test series in England.

Sharma has scored 152 runs in the series so far. In the first innings of the Lord’s Test, he along with KL Rahul put together 126 runs for the opening wicket, their second 50-plus opening stand in the series.
Rohit Sharma, India’s limited-overs vice-captain, said that he is not worried about how many runs he scores in the series.
“I just want us (India) to win, I am not worried about how many runs I’m going to get, or how many hundreds I need to score. I just want to win. It is a great chance for us to win here because we have the team, the squad, the bowlers to take home all 20 wickets, so we just want to challenge their batters,” he told Karthik, in a Sky Sports interview.

“I know they are slightly inexperienced in the middle order with some of the new guys coming in. But they are all good, but this is our best chance to win in England. It’s all about winning the championship now,” he added.
The 34-year-old said that England is the most challenging place to play cricket and It is the best feeling for a cricketer to do good there.
“It is seen over the years and also the entire cricketing fraternity talks about it. I have experienced it myself on many occasions over the years. I have played only two test matches in England but I have played a lot of white-ball cricket. It is the best feeling for a cricketer when you do good in such a tough situation”.

Rohit Sharma is set to join his IPL franchise in the UAE next month. He is also likely to be a part of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup that starts in October.
India will play the next Test match in Leeds, starting from August 25.
