Haryana man slapped with NSA for black marketing of fake Remdesivir

  • National Security Act was invoked against a man who was arrested for alleged black marketing of Remdesivir

  • The Remdesivir vials were found to be spurious and NSA was invoked against him

The Kanpur police invoked provisions of National Security Act (NSA) against a man, who was arrested for alleged black marketing of fake Remdesivir injections last month, officials said on Saturday.  

Sachin Kumar of Haryana was arrested along with two medical representatives, Kanpur Police Commissioner Asim Arun said. The injections that were seized from Kumar during his arrest were found to be fake, he added.

Arun added, “As per the procedure, we have slapped the NSA against Kumar for selling fake Remdesivir injections.”

As per the provisions of the NSA, one can be detained for as long as one year without any charges if authorities are convinced that the person is a threat to national security or law and order.

UP Special Task Force and the Babupurva Police arrested Kumar and the two medical workers with more than 265 vials of Remdesivir in mid-April.
