Hathras case: Supreme Court grants interim bail to journalist Siddique Kappan

The Supreme Court on Monday granted five-day interim bail to journalist Siddique Kappan, who was arrested in October while travelling to Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, where the gangrape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl had sparked nationwide outrage, ANI reported. Kappan was granted bail so that he could visit his ailing mother.

The apex court has restrained the scribe from talking to the media, including social media. He has also been barred from meeting anyone, other than his close family members, relatives and doctors. 

The bail was granted by the SC bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde.

The bench, also comprising Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian, said that Kappan will be escorted by a team of Uttar Pradesh police officers and police at Kerala will cooperate with them.
