The Indian Premier League has released detailed guidelines in case rain washes out any of the playoff games. The no-result match has become a real possibility now that the will be played in Kolkata.

Kolkata has been seeing regular rains and storms in the last month, one of the many after-effects of cyclone Asani.

Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore are scheduled to play the eliminator on May 25. The final will be played in Ahmedabad.

The multi-layer guidelines released by IPL organisers suggest that two teams will engage in a five-over game or priority. If the situation does not allow a five-over game, the match-referee will see if a super-over is possible. In case not even a single ball is bowled, the league standing will take precedence and will decide the winner.

In the case of the two qualifiers and the eliminator, if one innings is complete but no play is possible in the second, the DLS method will come into play.

If the final game starts on May 29 and at least one ball is bowled “then the “match will resume at the point where it stopped on the previous day”, a memo released by the IPL said.

It added, “For the avoidance of doubt, any match recalculations done without the match actually restarting on the previous night will be ignored.”

What about reserve days?

IPL organisers have not kept aside any reserve days for the two qualifiers and one eliminator. However, May 30 has been kept aside as a reserve day for the final clash, which will begin at 8 PM.
