In major overhaul, Congress drops Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge as general secretaries

In a major reshuffle on Friday, Congress’ president Sonia Gandhi removed Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge, Motilal Vora, Ambika Soni, Luizinho Faleiro as All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretaries, PTI reported.

Azad was among the 23 senior party leaders who wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi seeking major rehaul in the party.

The party reconstituted the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and appointed P Chidambaram, Randeep Surjewala, Tariq Anwar and Jitendra Singh as its regular members. CWC is the highest decision-making body of the party.

The new members will replace Faleiro, Vora, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Tamradhwaj Sahu.

Congress also set up a special committee to assist president Sonia Gandhi. AK Antony, Ahmed Patel, Ambika Soni, KC Venugopal, Mukul Wasnik and Randeep Surjewala are the member of the six-membered committee.
