Deepak Chahar has been included in the Indian playing XI, after Jasprit Bumrah was left out due to back pain in the match against South Africa. The pacer didn’t disappoint, bowling South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma in the first over itself. Chahar, before the wicket, had bowled three outswingers, but then bowled a beautiful inswinger to give India their first wicket.

Watch how the swing bowler bowled the Proteas captain:

In the second over, Arshdeep Singh tore apart South Africa’s top order, taking three wickets in the second over. His victims include opener Quinton de Kock, Rilee Rossouw and David Miller.

The bowler continued from his first over, taking his second wicket, India’s fifth, in the second over. This time, he sent back talented youngster Tristan Stubbs. Chahar bowled the bowl short and wide, but Stubbs didn’t expect the extra bounce. He ended finding a thick top-edge, and the catch was completed by Arshdeep Singh at third man. This also made Stubbs the third Proteas batter to be out for a golden duck.

Chahar has had a brilliant run in 2022, being one of India’s best bowler against Zimbabwe. For some time, he also has been IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings lead bowler in the powerplay and death overs.

The CSK bowler, however has been plagued with injuries throughout his career. He was not selected in the Asia Cup 2022, and was included in the squad for the tournament only after Avesh Khan was out due to fever. The swing bowler is also a standby in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.

This is the fewest number of balls India needed to take first five wickets in a T20, where the Men in Blue have taken five wickets in 15 balls. Their previous best was against Sri Lanka in 2016, when they took the first five in 31 balls.
