India and China have agreed on a three-step plan to resolve the flaring border conflict in eastern Ladakh and disengage from the Pangong Tso (lake) region, ANI reported. The plan was agreed upon during the eighth Corps Commander-level talks on November 6 at Chushul.
Ministry of External Affairs’ Joint Secretary Naveen Shrivastava and Brigadier Ghai of Directorate General of Military Operations had taken part in the meeting.
As per the discussions, the disengagement of tanks and armoured personal carriers was carried out within a day, ANI reported.
The second step requires both sides to withdraw around 30% of their troops every day for three days. The Indian side needs to come close to Dhan Singh Thapa post and the Chinese side has to move back east of Finger 8.
In the final step, the two sides will withdraw from the frontline positions along the southern bank of Pangong Tso.
Both India and China have also agreed on a joint mechanism to ensure the disengagement process is carried out.
