4th Test: Bad light ends Day 3 as India lead England by 171 runs

The Indian dominance on day three of the fourth Test was brought to a swift end in the final session as Ollie Robinson dismissed both Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara in the same over before play was stopped due to bad light on Saturday. The visitors’ score is currently at 270/3, leading England 171 runs. 

Skipper Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja are currently unbeaten on the crease and have added 33 runs to the board since Pujara’s dismissal. They will look to stretch the lead to at least 250-300 in order for India to have a chance to take the lead in the five-match series.  

India enjoyed another brilliant session before Tea, adding 91 runs for no loss to take a lead of hundred runs on the third day of the ongoing fourth Test at the Kennington Oval, London on Saturday. Rohit Sharma got his maiden overseas century, with Cheteshwar Pujara also scoring fifty to help India to a score of 199/1 at Tea.  

The two shared a 153-run partnership for the second wicket, before Robinson wreaked havoc with the second new ball, dismissing both Sharma and Pujara in the same over. Sharma once again perished while attempting the pull shot, mistiming his effort as Woakes completed a comfortable catch at deep square leg. 

Meanwhile, another short delivery aimed at Pujara’s body got through his defence and took a thick strong edge, before bouncing off his thigh and being collected by Ali in the slips. 

Openers Sharma and KL Rahul started the day strongly and nearly wiped out the hosts lead themselves, stitching an 83-run partnership. However, Rahul was unlucky to miss out on a fifty, dismissed at 46 by James Anderson.

The dismissisal was a bit contentious, as there was a huge spike on the UltraEdge as the ball passed the bat, but Rahul argued it was from his bat brushing the flap of his front pad. 

India started the day at 43/0. The visitors were 108/1 at Lunch.
